The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) allows you to travel to the United States wihout a VISA. This program is only available for the citizens of certain countries including most european countries, Australia and some additional countries.
The list of countries including in the program has been increasing, the following 36 countries participate in the Visa Waiver Program:

Nationals of VWP countries must meet certain requirements in order to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. Travelers who do not meet the requirements must apply for a visitor visa at the nearest U.S. consulate or embassy.
ESTA Registration requirement: The Department of Homeland Security is enforcing compliance of the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) requirement for Visa Waiver Program travelers. VWP travelers who have not obtained approval through ESTA registration will be denied boarding on any air carrier bound for the United States. A valid ESTA approval is required for all Visa Waiver Program (VWP) to travel to the United States. The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) is a free, automated system used to determine eligibility of visitors who wish to travel to the US under the VWP. It collects the same information from the I-94W Arrival Departure Record form that VWP travelers usually fill out en route to the United States. ESTA applications may be submitted at any time before traveling. An ESTA travel authorization generally will be valid for up to two years and also valid for multiple entries.
