Updating the Status of Operations

The State Department suspended all consular operations at the US Embassy in Kyiv, and on February 24 suspended the remaining consular presence in Lviv. All nonimmigrant visa services are currently suspended. This includes the suspension of relevant visa support services such as visa appointments and courier and collection services.

US nonimmigrant visa applicants can apply in any country where they are physically located and where space is available. Because each U.S. Embassy and Consulate has specific application procedures, you should contact the U.S. Embassy where you wish to apply directly.

The US Embassy in Kyiv cannot facilitate visa processing at a US Embassy in another country. If you have already paid the MRV application fee in Ukraine, but wish to apply for NIV in another country, you can do so. Please note, however, that US visa fees paid for applying in a particular country cannot be transferred to another country. If you have already paid the visa fee in Ukraine, you cannot use this payment in another country.

The Embassy has also suspended all interview waiver services. Please do not apply to extend your visa through the interview waiver process at this time.

Important note for non-immigrant travelers

On October 25, President Biden announced that the United States would adopt a global air travel policy. This policy prioritizes public health, protecting US citizens and residents, and those who come to visit.

On November 8, all noncitizens, nonimmigrants, air passengers bound for the United States must show proof of vaccination, as directed by the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), before boarding an aircraft bound for the United States.

All travelers to the United States, regardless of vaccination status, must present a negative COVID-19 virus test taken within one (1) day of travel to the United States prior to departure prior to departure. This applies to all travelers – US citizens, lawful permanent residents (LPR), and foreign nationals.

Passengers will need to show their vaccination status and airlines will need to:

• Match the name and date of birth to confirm that the passenger is the same person as listed on the vaccination certificate.
• Determine that the record was issued by an official source (eg, public health agency, government agency) in the country where the vaccine was introduced.
• Review important information to determine if the passenger meets the CDC definition for a full vaccination, such as vaccine product, number of doses of vaccine received, date(s) of administration, location (e.g. vaccination clinic, medical facility) of vaccination.

Airlines must deny boarding to passengers who do not meet these requirements or those who test positive for COVID-19.
